I really wanted to like this place. The staff was excellent and i had the feeling that they really wanted me to have a great experience and really believed in their business. The decor was cozy too. Unfortunately, I won't go back. They have all of the right components to have an excellent restaurant but they lose it by not using good ingredients. Nice salad bar but the blue cheese dressing had no flavor and no blue cheese taste at all. Just tasted oily. The salad bar was kept good and cold so the lettuce was crisp. They serve a whole loaf of bread but it had no flavor and was served with oleo. A. it should be butter and not oleo, B. if the bread is bland, then serve it with honey/butter or something with flavor. The onion soup was too salty to eat but that is unfortunately a normal situation with onion soup. The shrimp scampi was overcooked and again it did not taste like they use real butter and there was no hint of garlic. An employee asked if I enjoyed the meal and I asked him if he really wanted to know. He did, so I told him that the shrimp was tough from being overcooked and there was no hint of garlic. He apologized profusely and wanted to bring me a better prepared or another meal. I turned him down as I had a schedule so he graciously only charged me for the salad bar (which I tried to object since I did eat the whole meal but he insisted). I really like the heart of the place but the food was such a disappointment. Now please remember this was only one experience and other meals may be really delicious. I hope they get it together and turn it around. I liked the staff so much that if they had a questionaire that I could have filled out, I wouldn't have put this review on Yelp but I hope they read this so they can gain ideas on what people might like improved.

On a 1 to 10 scale this is about a 5. Acceptable on a pinch. They are probably best on fish. All in all nothing special

After reading other reviews I went into this place with zero expectations. I was really worried when straight away I had to ask for a new tea because mine was old and rotten. But the waiter was outstanding and apologized and brewed fresh for us. The salad bar was decent and satisfying and clean. Greens were fresh and washed. Our food came out in a good amount of time and was good for what it was, though I thought it a bit over priced for the area and product. The waiter was attentive but not overbearing or trying to rush us out. So, all in all it certainly was not as bad as most of the reviews made it seem, and was satisfying with excellent customer service.

Always enjoy a dinner at Pelican's. Great for lunch too! Wonderful and fresh salad bar with homemade dressing. Fabulous seafood, I especially like the Coconut Shrimp. Be sure to order the Loaded Baked Potato, it is perfect!

I would never choose to go eat seafood in MWC, America. Considering we are a land locked state, and restaurants in MWC are hit or miss, it just doesn't seem like the best dining choice. After reading all of the other reviews for Pelicans, my expectations were low. Honestly, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but I wouldn't choose to go back. I recently visited Pelican's on a Friday night with my family. We were celebrating my brother-in-law's success in passing a certification test for work, so they choose to eat at Pelican's. The outside of the building looks dated. They have a patio with beer signs everywhere blasting rock music outside, which is a bit confusing considering they are trying to be a nicer restaurant. We were greeted by 3 employees sitting on a bench inside the entry way. These are the same employees that were sitting there when i left; gossiping and cursing for all the customers coming and going to hear. I could rant, but I won't. Thankfully we had reservations, because they were shockingly full that evening. We were placed at a table at the back for our table of 7. I felt the table was a bit small for 7 people; it was a round table meant to hold 6. But they were busy that night. It is obvious they haven't updated the decor much, only as needed. It looked like they had recently replaced their carpet with carpet tiles, which looked nice. The ceiling was bare dry wall. It just wasn't the nicest, most up to date ambiance, but I was expecting worse. The food was meh. Honestly there were some good things, and some bad. The meal is served with complementary "fresh baked" bread. It is a 1/4 loaf of grocery store bakery french bread that they have reheated. Never seen that before in a restaurant. It was dried out from being reheated but was ok. Each meal comes with their salad bar, which has decent lettuce mix, several toppings and dressings, pasta salad, and soups. They had pickles on the salad bar but no cucumbers, but other than that everything was fresh and there was a decent selection (they had sprouts!). The soup, although I didn't try any, looked disgusting. One option was beef stew and they other was french onion. They both looked like the had been sitting there awhile. Our Grandmother got the french onion. It was thin and looked like it was from a can. Not very appetizing. For my meal, I ordered the coconut shrimp ($15.49) with a baked potato. My mother-in-law ordered the same thing. It was probably the safest thing on the menu. The shrimp did not have the crunchy pop you get from fresh shrimp, and it was heavily breaded. I suspect they were frozen but I can't be sure. Either way, they were decent. They were served with an orange marmalade sauce that resembled orange juice concentrate. Mmmm. The baked potato served with my meal was fully loaded and pretty tasty. It was the best thing that I ate that night. My husband ordered fried catfish ($12.49) and grandmother ordered fried shrimp ($14.49). Both were in the same beer batter (weird that catfish wasn't in a cornmeal batter) which was flavorless and extremely oily. I tasted them both, but neither were good. My brother-in-law and grandfather ordered ribeyes ($20.49) which were decent but under seasoned. And my father in law got the world's most flavorless piece of prime rib. I am not exaggerating. He gave me a taste and it was completely void of seasoning, but also did not have that beefy flavor that even under seasoned beef has. Even dipped in their au jus it still had no flavor. I cringe just thinking about it. I told him to tell the server because it was too expensive to just waste. The server took his plate and brought it to a manger, who apparently ate half of the prime rib before coming over to our table. No joke. He asked what was wrong, FiL told him there wasn't any flavor and that he had ordered it before and it was delicious. The manager told him that he had eaten half of it in the kitchen, gave the cook a few bites, and they both agreed that there wasn't anything wrong with it and that it is good like it always is. He did not seem apologetic at all, had an attitude, and was dead set that their food is exceptional. Thankfully they replaced his food with a ribeye and all was right in the world. I will say that our server did a lovely job and was attentive. Bottom line: This place isn't worth the money. There are so many other places to go eat seafood, chains included, that will be cheaper and more flavorful. I am all about supporting local businesses, but some places just don't get it. I agree with the comment that this place is a great candidate for Restaurant Impossible with Robert Irvine. I left feeling sad about my meal and thankful that I wasn't the one buying dinner that night. I honestly am surprised that they are still in business.

This is one of those themed restaurants that time forgot. Walking up to this fish themed food shack made me remember a better time when I was a child and didn't seem to care what I ate. The food was unfortunately over cooked at dried out, the salad bar was lacking, and even though there was no one at the bar, the drink order took far too long to complete. I really don't understand how this place is still open.

My dad loves this place. And I have to admit, I kind of do too. I remember coming here when I was a little girl. I remember it being a lot bigger, and being very scared to go to the bathroom alone. This used to be a place that we went to after church, and had to get dressed up to go. Now its a lot more casual and laid back. Its interesting to see how my father used to bring me here and we would always order the breaded mushrooms with marinara, and how my little 10 year old brother takes the initiative to do the same. The apple(s) do not fall far now do they? Being allergic to seafood and shellfish the staff here is very aware, and attentive. They have a really nice salad bar, the kind I only see when I go home. The kind that has chocolate pudding. (to my father's dismay and my brother's delight). I get the prime rib bloody and rare, and its fantastic every single time. I don't know that this place is AMAZING or even wonderful, but because of great service, and consistency, I know that not once in 20 years (TWENTY YEARS) have I ever had a bad experience. Its sad that the rest of the area has gone down the drain; the mall closed, the theatre closed... but I pray to G-d that Pelican's never closes.

I remember when I went to Pelican's for my freshman prom. Now it's much more casual. Small and dark but comfortable. The service was excellent. The waitress was excellent and very friendly. I ordered the blackened catfish and my husband ordered the fried catfish. You get either a house salad or a salad bar with your dinner. I suggest the bar because there are a million topping options plus soup. His had more flavor. But both were pretty tasty :) the only thing I didn't like was the texture. They were both a little "mushy" and a little rubbery. But the taste was excellent. I just saved what I didn't eat and reheated it in the oven to add some crispness to it the next day. I would defiantly go back. Maybe try something different.
